On Sunday morning we drove out to the State College area to see Matt’s grandmother. She lives in a community where everyone knows each other and is very friendly, and one of her neighbors was having a “Garage Party” that we were invited to. I was so curious to see what a Garage Party was and, well, it was just that. A party in a garage:

Matt and Lou, our host. Lou has a wine cellar in his house. He invited us down and opened a bottle. It was a riot.
Grandmom Palmer has a wonderful garden and she sent us home with some plants and flowers–I’m still not sure what all of them are, but this one was very interesting:
Grandmom Palmer sent us home with a bucketfull of plants and flowers!
On Monday we drove to Aunt Brenda’s for lunch. She lives in a house with a wonderful view and a really cool garden:

Then Brenda cooked a gourmet lunch of tomato soup with cilantro and avocado, and a “grilled cheese tasting” (four different types of bread and cheese. so yummy.):
We drove back on Route 22 and then the Turnpike and here are some random shots on the way home:
Matt’s favorite soda–we can’t find it here, but Grandmom Palmer had a secret stash!

Wow re the “garage party.”
I love Vernon’s gingerale, too!
Matt and I were on display and definitely the “talk of the party!”
The tomato soup and grilled cheese look amazing!
They were!! I told Brenda (the chef/Matt’s aunt) that I was going to steal the grilled cheese idea for a party.
That is a great idea (grilled cheese tasting party).
So is this garage party thing just something they do or is it a Central PA thing?
I think it’s a small town thing? Maybe? My mom said that her parents and their neighbors used to have similar parties.
