Global Love Day April 30, 2008

Global Love Day is May 1. Please celebrate this day with unconditional love and peace towards everyone you deal with. It will make you feel good–I’ve been testing this practice for a few weeks and it works. The more modern phrase might be “What Goes Around, Comes Around.” After May 1, make it a part of your normal routine. Even if you do not see immediate results, you will gradually become aware that kindness towards others will eventually increase your quality of life. I do not agree with everything Mother Theresa believed in, but she was a powerful woman who did powerful things:

“I was once asked why I don’t participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I’ll be there.” ~~Mother Theresa

Madonna and Justin: the video confuses me. April 28, 2008

So I consider myself to be completely out of the loop with popular music these days. I never thought it would happen, but my favorite station is Magic 102.9. I guess I am going to depend on my kids to some day keep me in the know. Anyway, I decided to briefly listen to Q102 the other day in the car and the new Madonna/Justin/Timbaland song came on, 4 minutes, and I love it. What a great combo. Today I just looked up the video. Um, I’m not sure what to think. Part of me thinks it’s cool, but most of me thinks it’s just wrong because Madonna is at least twice Justin’s age, right? Does anyone else get a little weirded out by this?

Mother’s Day Craft Fair April 27, 2008

I will be selling my jewelry on Saturday, May 3, at The Eagles Nest’s Craft and Vendor Fair. Come visit!

Seedlings! April 24, 2008

This is a photo essay of our seedlings–ALL of them have sprouted and now we just have to keep them alive! We planted about 10 different kinds of veggies and herbs. I treat these cute little guys like they are my pets!

Primary Election voting experience April 22, 2008

I have no photos, just a list of observances from my voting experience today:

1. I was registered with my maiden name and I only had one form of ID. It had my married name on it. I was still allowed to vote.
2. There was no line at 6:30.
3. There were no party/delegate supporters anywhere outside.
4. There were many signs: the only Democratic sign was for Clinton that was mostly covered by a Ron Paul Sign.
5. The other voters in the Fire House were all Republicans. I felt slightly uncomfortable with my bright pink “Democrat” slip of paper (The Republican slip was pale blue).
6. Our neighbors (the ones we don’t really like) were there.

That’s about it. It was kind of surreal. I was expecting more excitement, I guess. As Matt and I were driving home from work on Broad Street through North Philadelphia, there were crazy Obama supporters yelling out to the passing cars. That was fun.

Simple Bangles at The Eagles Nest April 20, 2008

Simple Bangles jewelry is finally for sale at a shop in Downingtown, PA! The Eagles Nest is now housing most of my pieces and I am having a little bit of separation anxiety, but hopefully this will generate more sales! It’s an adorable shop that used to be an old barn. If you are ever in the area, check it out!

Thanks to my mom for donating the table and bird cages, and for helping me today to set everything up (and navigate while I drove terribly)!

BATS! April 18, 2008

My mom finally convinced me this evening that there are bats living in our neighborhood! We saw a pair of them flying around at dusk and I am so excited. When Matt and I lived in Center City, we would walk to the grocery store down back alleys, and at a certain time of night, we could look up and see bats flying around everywhere. It was almost magical and I really miss those bats! So…I really want to get one of these:

It’s a “Bat House” sold by the Organization for Bat Conservation.

I wish I could take a picture of a bat up close–maybe if I get a bat house I’ll be able to someday!

More signs of Spring! April 18, 2008

I love chronicaling the oncoming warm weather with photos from our “grounds.”

Our latest decision is to cut down the second (ugly and very tall) pine tree in our back yard and replace it with a beautiful flowering fruit tree. I can’t wait to do this. No pictures yet.

But–this is what we have been doing since my last signs of spring post:

Salvia

Two weeks ago we planted some seeds and this is their progress as of a few days ago:

The Hydrangeas and Butterfly Bush are coming back to life!

This is an amazing plant that I had never noticed before. My mom has some growing in her garden as well…what are they called? It’s slipping my mind. We may replant them to a more open area.

When I get home from work today, I’ll post more of our seedlings’ progress. I wake up every morning to tend them. :)

Garden Gnome! April 16, 2008

I woke up this morning and before I went to work I took our seedlings outside because I knew they would love the sunshine. This is what greeted me:

My very own Garden Gnome! I’ve wanted one for so long–ever since I saw The Full Monty for the first time (I couldn’t find the scene with the gnome so click at your own risk). :) My mom came over while Matt and I were at work yesterday, and I didn’t notice him when we got home because it was dark and late. He is so cute. I have to think of a name for him. Here are more pictures of my gnome:

One year ago today… April 15, 2008

Matt was so cute–he called 88.5 WXPN this morning and dedicated songs to me. They announced it at 9:00 and I was able to hear it online from my office! I was so surprised!

Richard Thompson – Beeswing
Stargazer Lily – Crush
