I spent a fair amount of time in our car this weekend running errands, something I rarely get to do, and it was fun because I could listen to the Once soundtrack over and over (and over) and belt it out at the top of my lungs. Matt and I are worried that “Broken Hearted Hoover Fixer Sucker Guy” won’t be played the the concert we are going to on May 20, but I think it may be a possibility. This is some footage from a November 2007 show of The Swell Season:
And a more unique spin on the song:
We really can’t wait. I may start an official countdown.
One of my former students made me so proud tonight. Maiko, who was one of my first students back in Japan 8 years ago, had some of her art work exhibited in a boutique called Bus Stop on Fabric Row. There is an event called “4th on 4th” (kind of like First Friday in Old City) and at the last minute, Anita decided to join me! It was a lot of fun, and Maiko’s art was very cool. And I was very proud of her!
Anita, Maiko, and me in front of some of her art.
The boutique before it got really crowded.
The artist.
Anita and me in front of all of the gorgeous, but very expensive, shoes in the boutique.
I took a stroll around our “grounds” yesterday evening and saw so many plants and bushes coming back to life! I’m so excited to plant for spring.
This is our grape vine that we planted last year and Matt pruned it back. Hopefully it will keep getting stronger and produce lots of grapes!
These winter pansies survived and were flowering during the whole winter–amazing!
These were some of my favorite (wild?)flowers as a child but I forget what they are called…
This is our blueberry bush that we never got around to planting last year. It survived being outside all winter and it has lots of new branches and buds on it! I plan on putting it in the ground in the next few weeks.
I never noticed these plants before on the side of the house–they must be perennials. I can’t wait until they bloom!
This bush literally blossomed overnight!
These are blooming on the other side of the house. What are these called? (Mom?)
Our rose bushes are getting really out of hand–pretty soon they will be as tall as the house! I have to look into the proper way to prune them back. But–there are tons of new branches, buds, and leaves on them. They are so beautiful when they bloom!
I actually think some of these are incorrect–let me know what you think.
Yo VIP let’s kick it
Ice ice baby (x2)
All right stop collaborate and listen
Ice is back with my brand new invention
Something grabs a hold of me tightly
Flow like a harpoon daily and nightly
Will it ever stop yo I don’t know
Turn off the lights and I’ll glow
To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle
Dance go rush to the speaker that booms
I’m killing your brain like a poisonous mushroom
Deadly when I play a dope melody
Anything less than the best is a felony
Love it or leave it you better gain weight
You better hit bull’s eye the kid don’t play
If there was a problem yo I’ll solve it
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it
CHORUS
Ice ice baby vanillla (x4)
Now that the party is jumping
With the bass kicked in and the vegas are pumpin’
Quick to the point to the point no faking
I’m cooking MC’s like a pound of bacon
Burning them if you ain’t quick and nimble
I go crazy when I hear a cymbal
And a hi-hat with a souped up tempo
I’m on a roll and it’s time to go solo
Rollin’ in my 5.0
With my rag-top down so my hair can blow
The girlies on standby waving just to say hi
Did you stop no I just drove by
Kept on pursuing to the next stop
I busted a left and I’m heading to the next block
The block was dead
Yo so I continued to A1A Beachfront Avenue
Girls were hot wearing less than bikinis
Rockman lovers driving Lamborghinis
Jealous ’cause I’m out getting mine
Shay with a guage and Vanilla with a nine
Reading for the chumps on the wall
The chumps acting ill because they’re so full of eight balls
Gunshots rang out like a bell
I grabbed my nine all I heard were shells
Falling on the concrete real fast
Jumped in my car slammed on the gas
Bumpet to bumper the avenue’s packed
I’m trying to get away before the jackers jack
Police on the scene you know what I mean
They passed me up confronted all the dope fiends
If there was a problem yo I’ll solve it
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it
REPEAT CHORUS
Take heed ’cause I’m a lyrical poet
Miami’s on the scene just in case you didn’t know it
My town that created all the bass sound
Enough to shake and kick holes in the ground
‘Cause my style’s like a chemical spill
Feasible rhymes that you can vision and feel
Conducted and formed
This is a hell of a concept
We make it hype and you want to step with this
Shay plays on the fade slice like a ninja
Cut like a razor blade so fast other DJs say damn
If my rhyme was a drug I’d sell it by the gram
Keep my composure when it’s time to get loose
Magnetized by the mic while I kick my juice
If there was a problem yo I’ll solve it
Check out the hook while Shay revolves it
Ice ice baby vanilla
Ice ice baby (oh-oh) vanilla
Ice ice baby vanilla
Ice ice baby vanilla ice
Yo man let’s get out of here
Word to your mother
Ice ice baby too cold
Ice ice baby too cold too cold (x2)
Ice ice baby
I will have my Easter post up and running tomorrow, but until then, I want to share a video I found on Very Funny Ads. If anyone had a rough Easter, these ads might make you feel better, although they are all pretty awful:
I have been hearing the theme song from Jean de Florette everywhere lately. Most significantly was at The Chieftains concert and the new Stella Artois commercial. The first time I watched the film and heard this music was in 9th grade and I honestly think that it’s the most beautiful score I’ve ever heard (it’s also one of my favorite foreign films). I’ll see if I can post the full version of the theme song here:
I’m kind of in the mood to find old school songs online and post them with the lyrics. How often would you just not sing the right lyrics, or not sing at all? I did it a lot. Here’s my first one:
[Now wait a minute, y'all
This dance ain't for everybody
Only the sexy people
So all you fly mothers, get on out there and dance
Dance, I said!]
Salt and Pepa’s here, and we’re in effect
Want you to push it, babe
Coolin’ by day then at night working up a sweat
C’mon girls, let’s go show the guys that we know
How to become number one in a hot party show
Now push it
Ah, push it – push it good
Ah, push it – push it real good
Ah, push it – push it good
Ah, push it – p-push it real good
Yo, yo, yo, yo, baby-pop
Yeah, you come here, gimme a kiss
Better make it fast or else I’m gonna get pissed
Can’t you hear the music’s pumpin’ hard like I wish you would?
Now push it
Push it good
P-push it real good
Ah, push it
Get up on this!
Boy, you really got me going
You got me so I don’t know what I’m doing
I couldn’t believe it yesterday when I got home from work and started looking through the mail. There was a postcard addressed to me for Playboy TV! And if that wasn’t bad enough, there were some very risque photos right on the outside of the postcard that anyone could see. What if I had kids?? How would I have explained that to them? I felt so violated and disturbed by getting this in the mail. I have a feeling that they got my name from Comcast (because my name is on that bill) so I have a mind to call up Comcast and give them a piece of my mind! Who else would be slightly offended? Here are the photos just so you get an idea of what I am talking about:
